Diary of a Showgirl – Produced by Slam Events
Summer 2014 saw the arrival of our first community production in Rutland, produced by Slam Events.
Sarah Bell, produced, wrote, co directed and co choreographed the production titled, ‘Diary of a Show Girl’. The production was an original Musical based around the tale of a young woman trying to make it in the industry as a performer and her ups and downs along the way. It incorporated Musical Theatre and Chart topping tracks sung live by the tremendous cast of 60 people aged from 8 to 80!
Sarah of Slam Events was joined by ex Royal Ballet dancer Nicola Morris as Choreographer and acclaimed opera singer and vocal coach Caroline Trutz who acted as Musical Director. Nicola brought her piece to life using her history in classical ballet and contemporary dance and managed to inspire the community cast along the way. Caroline saw that our singers were incredibly focused, disciplined and singing to the absolute best of their ability by the time the show days came round and even encouraged some not so keen dancers to test out their vocal cords on stage!
Performance were also given by Rutland Choral Society and Oakham Show Choir who joined together to create an incredible sound throughout the show. Find out how you can be part of Oakham Show Choir by clicking the link!
The production was a huge success with audiences fulling a packed out auditorium at Uppingham Community College for 2 fabulous performances on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July 2014. The generous applause was testament to the hard work of the cast and their commitment to the project.
This couldn’t have taken place however without a fabulous and hugely talented production team at our side. A huge well done to all of the cast and production team on producing such a wonderful event. I only hope we can repeat the experience next Summer… Watch this space for dates, times and auditions!
